The prevalence and potentially severe outcomes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) have been in the headlines of late; principally as it relates to the military and sports. Much less attention has been directed to TBI in those affected by domestic violence, even though the numbers affected may dwarf those of all other causes of TBI combined. This lack of attention has resulted in less than optimal care for those affected and may, in fact, exacerbate the issues of TBI in the domestic violence setting.
Sojourner Center is addressing the issue of TBI and domestic violence through its BRAIN Program because it will take more than shelter to eradicate domestic violence.
